About the Role: Data Scientist
We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join our team at Disney Web-based features. As a Data Scientist, you will play a critical role in driving business growth and informing strategic decisions through data-driven insights. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including content, marketing, product, and engineering, to analyze complex data sets, develop predictive models, and provide actionable recommendations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the streaming business with AI and statistical modeling focused on understanding and predicting subscriber behavior, such as churn, upgrade/downgrade, price responsiveness, customer segmentation, survival analysis, experiment design and analysis, and causal inference.
- Develop and execute innovative AI methods to answer key business questions while identifying new areas to explore.
- Drive experimentation to evaluate the impact of your models and collaborate with colleagues across the organization to identify and unlock opportunities.
- Present your findings and recommendations to senior executives and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with different data teams to improve platform capabilities around data modeling, data visualization, experimentation, and data architecture.
Essential Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Econometrics, or Statistics.
- 2+ years of experience designing, building, and evaluating effective AI solutions.
- Strong coding experience in (at least one) data programming languages like Python/R, with additional experience in scientific libraries like Numpy, Pandas, or similar libraries a plus.
- Proficiency in analyzing data and building ML models using Python (with ML frameworks like TensorFlow, scikit-learn, etc.).
- A strong foundation in statistical modeling: regression, classification, time series forecasting, causal inference, and other methods.
- Experience creating interpretable numerical models and solving complex quantitative problems that can be understood by non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to extract insights and conclusions from data to inform model development and business decisions.
- Willingness to collaborate with other data scientists, data analysts, and key stakeholders.
- Good understanding of SQL.
Preferred Qualifications:
While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- A postgraduate degree in a quantitative field.
- Excellent analytical skills, with a high level of statistical knowledge.
- Proven ability to choose the right statistical tools given a data analysis problem.
- Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment with changing needs.
- Strong communication skills, for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of data platforms and applications like Databricks, Jupyter, Snowflake, Windstream, Github.
- Experience with designing and analyzing A/B testing and other experimentation types.
- Experience thinking strategically to interpret market and consumer data, ideally about a subscription service.
- Experience with distributed data technologies (Hive, Spark).
- Experience with NLP and NN models.
