Cataloging & Metadata Librarian- Library Services - Now Hiring

Overview Summary The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian is responsible for managing the cataloging and metadata operations for the multiple site library system, including overseeing copy cataloging and metadata schema for the institutional repository. This position is responsible for original cataloging for both the Downers Grove, IL and Glendale, AZ campuses and completing copy cataloging and acquisitions processes including receiving and physical processing for the Downers Grove, IL campus. The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian also coordinates copy cataloging and acquisitions processes for the Glendale campus. This position is responsible for creating and maintaining local practice for library catalog and institutional repository metadata. The office hours are M-F, 8:30AM – 5:00PM. The position reports to the Technical Services Manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Catalog, classify, and assign subject headings to library materials in accordance with local and national standards, including perform original and copy cataloging of library materials on integrated library system and OCLC • Supervise and perform maintenance, data entry, and quality control of library system catalog, institutional repository, and collections. • Complete copy cataloging and acquisitions processes including receiving and physical processing for the Downers Grove campus. • Coordinate copy cataloging and acquisitions processes for the Glendale campus. • Coordinate and maintain inventory of library system holdings on local and national online bibliographic databases • Create and maintain cataloging and metadata manual. • Assist in the planning and coordination of new and ongoing projects for the library system • Participate in collection development, reference, and other library services as needed • Serve as a resource person on matters pertaining to collection and database maintenance in the department • Develop and maintain relevant reports for the department • Maintain knowledge of library technical services trends, including metadata, such as linked data and BIBframe • Provide reference service via chat, phone and in person. • Other duties may be assigned Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This individual must be able to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner and must have regular, predictable, in-person attendance. Education and/or Experience A Masters degree in Library/Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited institution and 2-4 years’ relevant knowledge and work experience in applying cataloging and classification standards, such as RDA/AACR2, MARC, LCC, LCSH, and MeSH. Experience planning and implementing metadata schema for digital collections. Experience in training and/or teaching. Experience working in a team and customer service oriented environment. Experience with Sierra, Figshare, and research information management systems a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Computer Skills Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Sierra or ILS/cataloging software, web navigation skills and searching skills. Language Skills High skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information to top management, and boards of directors Reasoning Ability High skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Mathematical Ability Basic skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
