Medical Billing Specialist (Remote)

We are seeking a Billing Specialist to join our fully remote team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and is passionate about supporting medical providers with best-in-class billing services. Experience in ENT and/or dental billing is a plus, but not required.
Key Responsibilities
• Charge Entry & Claim Submission
• Accurately enter and review charges from electronic health records (EHRs) and clinical documentation.Prepare, scrub, and submit claims to insurance payers (electronic and paper) in a timely manner.
• Payments & Reconciliation
• Post payments, adjustments, and denials from ERA/EOBs into practice management systems.
• Reconcile patient accounts, ensuring accuracy in balances and timely resolution of discrepancies.
• Accounts Receivable (AR) Management
• Monitor aging reports and follow up on outstanding claims with payers.
• Identify trends in denials or rejections, work appeals, and implement corrective actions.
• Contact patients for outstanding balances as appropriate, with professionalism and empathy.
• Compliance & Documentation
• Ensure all billing practices comply with payer requirements, HIPAA, and industry standards.
• Maintain detailed documentation of claim activity, correspondence, and follow-up actions.
• Collaboration & Reporting
• Work closely with internal team members and client practice staff to resolve billing and coding issues.
• Assist in generating reports on collections, AR status, and denial trends as requested by leadership or clients.
Qualifications
• Required
• 10+ years of medical billing experience in a physician practice, RCM company, or related setting.
• Proficiency with medical billing software, clearinghouses, and EHR/practice management systems.
• Strong understanding of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and payer billing rules.
• Knowledge of insurance verification, pre-authorizations, and claim appeals.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a fully remote environment.
• Preferred
• Experience with multiple different specialties. (ENT or dental billing is a plus, but not required.
• Familiarity with payer-specific rules and reimbursement models in specialty practices.
• Experience with AR clean-up projects or revenue cycle audits.
