Certified Hospital Coder II (NHRMC Only)
About the position
Responsibilities
• Abstract and code medical data at the Certified Hospital Coder II level.
• Focus on Outpatient surgery and Observation accounts as assigned.
• Receive training upon hire through the education team or specific onboarding plans.
• Monitor progress and assist team members to achieve productivity and accuracy expectations.
• Participate in assessments to evaluate knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT coding.
• Work overtime as required by organizational business needs.
Requirements
• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate Degree preferred.
• Minimum of two years of outpatient coding experience with relevant certifications (CCA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, COC, CIC, or CPC-A) required.
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting and CPT coding classification system.
• Advanced level Medical Terminology knowledge.
• Knowledge in Anatomy, Physiology, and Pharmacology.
• Basic computer skills including data entry and navigation of windows-based software.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and utilize coding resources.
Nice-to-haves
• Experience with EPIC and 3M Encoder software.
• Working knowledge of disease processes, APC classification, and reimbursement structures.
• Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• Specialty coding experience.
