About the position The Academic Advisor at the CECH Student Services Center is responsible for providing academic advising and support to undergraduate students in the School of Education. This role focuses on facilitating students' educational planning and degree completion while ensuring alignment with their personal and professional goals. The advisor will engage in proactive outreach, monitor student progress, and collaborate with faculty to enhance the student experience and success. Responsibilities • Provide academic advising to facilitate students' successful and timely educational planning and degree completion. • Serve as advisor for a designated caseload of students through proactive outreach, support, and education. • Monitor student progress and develop graduation plans in partnership with individual students. • Provide information regarding curriculum, policies, procedures, opportunities, and guidelines for academic programs. • Evaluate student information and utilize data to facilitate enrollment and registration. • Maintain advising and enrollment records. • Assess advanced standing credit and create degree audit exceptions in partnership with faculty. • Evaluate student needs and provide appropriate resource referral to career, academic, counseling, and student life resources. • Support students through educational transition processes such as orientation and graduation. • Recommend actions related to academic alert, probation, suspension, and dismissal of students. • Utilize current advising and student success technologies for outreach to students. • Engage in ongoing professional development and training to maintain up-to-date knowledge about advising concepts and practices. • Collaborate with UC advising community colleagues to advance quality advising practice. Requirements • Bachelor's Degree • Zero (0) to one (1) year of student service or related experience. • Strong interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills. • Ability to retain a high volume of programmatic, college, and university related information. • Ability to critically think through complex situations. • Must be able to multitask and work well independently, as well as on a team. • Prior experience, proficiency, and comfort with technology. Nice-to-haves • Knowledge in the field of education and/or teacher licensure programs. • Experience in advising and/or mentoring college students. • Master's degree in Higher Education or a student development-related field.
