Lead Systems Engineer – Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
About the position
Responsibilities
• Lead the creation and execution of the Digital Engineering MBSE roadmap, driving alignment across Power & Controls (P&C).
• Define and develop critical MBSE capabilities to support programs and enhance product development efficiency.
• Create and validate MBSE models, including stakeholder needs and requirements, as well as behavioral and structural diagrams.
• Develop and maintain reference architectures and standard work to ensure consistent and scalable MBSE implementation.
• Act as the primary liaison to the Digital Product Lifecycle (DPLC) Technical Advisory Board, representing P&C’s needs and strategic priorities.
• Foster collaboration with product line systems engineers to ensure consistent MBSE practices and adoption across all development phases.
• Coordinate MBSE capability development with other Collins Aerospace Strategic Business Units (SBUs) to promote enterprise-wide alignment.
• Support the integration of MBSE tools with hardware design, analysis platforms, and the broader digital engineering ecosystem.
• Lead tool and environment integrations, execute trade studies, and develop system interface descriptions to optimize workflows.
• Explore and implement opportunities to improve connectivity between MBSE tools and digital thread solutions.
• Mentor and train junior systems engineers, sharing best practices and technical guidance to grow MBSE expertise within P&C.
• Support proposal and business development activities through the effective application of MBSE methodologies.
• Travel up to 15% as needed to support program objectives and cross-functional collaboration.
Requirements
• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
Nice-to-haves
• 8+ years of systems engineering experience in a hardware-focused product development environment.
• Proficiency in MBSE tools such as Cameo, Teamwork Cloud, and SysML modeling.
• Familiarity or hands-on experience with requirements management and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools, such as DOORS, Jama, Polarion, Teamcenter, and Windchill.
• Experience across the full product lifecycle, including Request for Proposal (RFP) response, requirements development, system design, integration, qualification/certification, production transition, and field service support.
• Working knowledge of mechanical or electrical design and analysis tools.
• Strong ability to prepare and present technical concepts, project status, and risk assessments to stakeholders at all organizational levels.
• Experience with Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) or Unified Architecture Framework (UAF).
• Understanding of Agile and Waterfall product development lifecycles.
• Experience or strong interest in Digital Thread and Integrated Digital Environment (IDE) processes, creation, usage, and best practices.
