The Full-time Nursing Faculty member functions within the mission, philosophy, and procedures within the college's policies. Full-time Faculty may teach a combination of didactic, lab, and clinical courses to meet their Full-Time Equivalent Hours. Teaching assignment(s) may include any of the approved courses within the nursing science/clinical practice discipline for which the candidate is qualified to teach.Nursing faculty facilitate the learning of nursing students and empower them with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to provide safe, cost-effective, and interprofessional care to clients, families, and communities. Faculty shall create dynamic learning environments to engender desired cognitive, affective, and psychomotor outcomes; develop students' behavioral and socialization skills expected of nursing professionals; assess and evaluate student success; participate in curriculum design and program outcomes; function as a change agent and demonstrate excellence in nursing education and nursing practice, and continuously pursue quality improvements as a nursing educator.Candidates must be passionate about nursing, education, and innovation and looking for a full-time career where they will make a difference in healthcare, education, and population health.10-month, budgeted faculty member at any level and in any college, division is expected to teach 14-16 units per semester, with 1 credit hour equaling one unit. Twelve-month faculty are expected to each an additional 6-credits over winter and/or summer. Other teaching requirements and unit definitions can be found in the faculty handbook. In addition to teaching, faculty are expected to maintain at least 5 office hours per week.Essential Role Responsibilities Faculty are expected to demonstrate quality teaching by:Clearly communicating to students at the beginning of a course what they are to learn (course descriptions, syllabi, the grading system, and the learning objectives, attendance policy etc.).Create a supportive and nurturing learning environment where students feel safe to learn and seek assistance when needed.Provide opportunities outside of class for students to get assistance. (teaching/service)Enforce the college rules as published in the Student Handbook and Howard Community College Catalog.Facilitates interactive learning environments (teaching)Incorporates the teaching principles of Howard Community College into their teaching: evidence-based practice, problem-based learning, and interprofessional practice.Participates in annual trainings on best practices for teaching excellence (Breaking Developments) (teaching/scholarship)Uses data for continuous improvement (teaching/scholarship/service)Didactic, lab, clinical, and fieldwork curriculum align seamlessly (teaching)Evaluates students and provides documented feedback to students based on course outcomes (teaching)Promoting effective student learning through assignments and class activities including the use of a variety of instructional techniques designed to meet student needs, promoting active and independent learning, and promoting higher-order thinking.Holding classes at the scheduled time for the full period, except for emergency situations.Maintaining accurate attendance scholastic records and submitting required reports to meet deadlines, including submission of final grades by the published deadline.Teaching evening classes as part of regular load when assigned and at least once every two years within the needs of each division.Conducting assigned classes in accordance with the catalog and course description and objectives for the course.Developing methods of assessing student learning as specified in the objectives and providing feedback to students in a timely manner.Teaching students in the clinical environment and providing formative feedback using the clinical progress evaluation tool.Preparing, ordering, and updating normal classroom materials (including new textbooks) in accordance with established deadlines, including routine handouts, audiovisual equipment, library materials, bibliographies, reading lists, textbooks, software etc.Completing administrative duties in accordance with the administrative job description when assigned in lieu of a full teaching load.Attend and actively participate in meetingsMinimum Education Required Master's degree Experience Required 3 Preferred Experience Current, unencumbered Maryland Registered Nurse LicenseRecent (within 3 years) medical-surgical clinical experienceMaster's Degree or higher, requiredPhysical Demand Summary Classroom/Office settingSupervisory Position?
