Remote - PostgreSQL DBA with ETL and AWS Expertise

Role: PostgreSQL DBA with ETL and AWS Expertise Location: NJ/NC/RI(or Remote, depending on company policy) Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) with significant expertise in ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and AWS cloud technologies to join our dynamic data engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance optimization of our PostgreSQL databases within an AWS environment, with a strong understanding of how these databases interact with ETL pipelines. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and reliable flow of data across our systems. Responsibilities: PostgreSQL Database Administration: Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL database systems on AWS (RDS, EC2). Perform database upgrades, patching, and migrations. Implement and manage database security measures, including user access control, encryption, and auditing. Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability. Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization techniques (query tuning, indexing, partitioning). Troubleshoot database issues and provide timely resolutions. Automate routine DBA tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Shell, Python). Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, and standards. ETL Exp: Collaborate with data engineers to understand ETL requirements and data flow. Design and optimize database schemas and structures to support efficient ETL processes. Monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues related to ETL workloads. Implement and optimize database queries and stored procedures used in ETL pipelines. Work with ETL tools and technologies (e.g., AWS Glue, Apache NiFi, Informatica, Talend) to ensure seamless data integration. Understand data warehousing concepts and their implementation in PostgreSQL. AWS Cloud Expertise: Design and implement highly available and scalable PostgreSQL architectures on AWS. Utilize AWS services such as RDS for PostgreSQL, EC2, EBS, S3, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, IAM, and VPC. Manage and optimize PostgreSQL instances running on Amazon RDS. Implement and manage database replication and disaster recovery solutions in AWS. Monitor and manage database costs within the AWS environment. Implement and maintain secure network configurations for database access within AWS. Staying Current: Keep up-to-date with the latest PostgreSQL features, ETL tools and methodologies, AWS services, and industry best practices. Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to improve data integration and database efficiency. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Proven experience (X+ years, specify desired experience level) as a PostgreSQL DBA. Significant hands-on experience with AWS cloud services, particularly RDS for PostgreSQL and EC2. Strong understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, internals, and best practices. Solid understanding of ETL principles, methodologies, and best practices. Experience working with at least one major ETL tool or framework (e.g., AWS Glue, Apache NiFi, Informatica, Talend). Proficiency in SQL and experience with query optimization and performance tuning, specifically in the context of ETL workloads. Experience with database backup and recovery strategies. Solid understanding of database security principles and implementation. Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Shell, Python) for automation. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
