[Remote] Trial Attorney (Remote – Hampton Roads, VA)

They are seeking a Trial Attorney to manage insurance defense litigation, provide counsel, and collaborate with legal teams while staying updated on emerging laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of insurance defense litigation from case inception to resolution, including case assessment, discovery, depositions, motion practice, pre-trial negotiations, courtroom advocacy, and post-trial motions
- Gather and organize documents, evidence, and research for hearings, trials, mediations, and depositions
- Conduct legal research on relevant laws, regulations, and case precedents; prepare concise summaries and reports
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other legal documents
- Interview clients and witnesses; draft summaries and maintain clear, accurate communication records
- Attend court hearings, depositions, and related legal proceedings; may represent the company or clients in routine matters
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations and communicate potential impacts to the legal team
- Participate in training sessions and mentorship programs to develop litigation skills and gain exposure to more complex legal work
Skills
- Juris Doctorate and active membership in good standing with the Virginia State Bar
- Early-career experience in trial advocacy
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills with the ability to draft clear, well-structured legal documents
- Effective time management skills with the ability to handle multiple deadlines
- Ability to organize case files, manage legal documents, and understand the discovery process
- Skilled in communicating with clients and preparing clear summaries and interaction records
- Knowledgeable in legal ethics and professional conduct standards
- Equipped with foundational negotiation strategies for client interactions and settlement discussions
- Must be within a commutable distance to courts throughout Southeastern Virginia, including Suffolk, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Northampton, Portsmouth, Newport News, York, Williamsburg, Isle of Wight, Franklin City
