FX ordered the pilot for
The Bear in March 2021, with the series officially greenlit in October 2021.
Filming takes place primarily in Chicago, Illinois, with the real-life restaurant Mr. Beef on Orleans Street serving as both inspiration and a key filming location for the fictional “Original Beef of Chicagoland.” Later seasons expanded production internationally, including scenes shot in Singapore, Bangkok, and Hong Kong. The series is known for its distinctive visual and audio style, using fast editing, overlapping dialogue, and heightened sound design to reflect the intensity of a working kitchen.
Notably, the Season 1 episode “Review” was filmed as a single continuous 17-minute take. Seasons 3 and 4 were filmed back-to-back beginning in February 2024, with Season 4 released in June 2025 and a fifth season announced for 2026. Cast
The main ensemble includes Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Matty Matheson, who also serves as an executive producer. Apply tot his job
