Staff Attorney: Housing (Springfield)
Community Legal Aid (CLA) is a non-profit legal services program providing free civil legal assistance to low-income and elderly residents of central and western Massachusetts. They are seeking a housing attorney to represent tenants in eviction cases and assist with public housing program issues, engaging in community outreach and education.
Responsibilities
- Represent tenants in eviction cases
- Assist tenants facing denials or terminations from public and subsidized housing programs
- Handle other housing-related matters
- Participate in a Housing Court lawyer-for-the-day program
- Engage in community outreach and education
Skills
- Current third-year law students, recent law school graduates and more experienced attorneys are eligible to apply
- Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to poverty law and social justice work
- Experience in landlord-tenant work or court-based law school clinical work is preferred
- Fluency in Spanish is helpful
