Job Overview
The Pharmacy Resident position at arenaflex is a one-year, ASHP and APhA accredited program designed to foster pharmacists with expertise in community pharmacy practice. The program emphasizes the development of practical skills required by current and future community pharmacists. As a resident, you will spend most of your time at arenaflex pharmacies, with the remaining time dedicated to specific rotations in ambulatory care, management, or education at our partner institution.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical: Participate in obligatory long-term rotations in community pharmacy, ambulatory care, arenaflex management, and education to achieve the objectives set out by the accreditation guidelines.
- Education: Engage in various teaching opportunities, including small group and large lecture discussions, act as an assistant preceptor for community pharmacy practice laboratory, and precept PharmD clerkship students at all sites.
- Operational/Regulatory: Develop your administrative role as a pharmacist by spending time with the pharmacy manager at both sites and the Area Healthcare Manager at arenaflex to understand the intricacies of pharmacy operations.
- Management/Administration: Participate in state and national pharmacy associations, attend Massachusetts Pharmacy Association meetings, and engage in regulatory projects to advance the practice of pharmacy.
Objectives
The primary objectives of the program are to:
- Engage the resident in the clinical, educational, operational, and administrative aspects of community pharmacy practice.
- Prepare the resident to assume clinical, educational, operational, and administrative responsibilities within the community practice setting.
- Provide a mechanism by which the resident contributes to the development of pharmacy services within the community setting.
- Develop the resident's precepting and teaching skills.
- Contribute to quality improvement programs as applicable.
- Successfully design and implement a longitudinal residency project and present an original manuscript for publication in a reputable pharmacy journal.
Essential Qualifications
To be eligible for the Pharmacy Resident position, you must:
- Hold a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a school or college of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.
- Be able to obtain a pharmacist license within the state of residency within 90 days of the start of the residency program.
- Submit residency application materials to Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS).
- Participate in and comply with the rules of the ASHP Resident Matching System.
- Be a certified immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
