Graduate Sustainable Design Analyst (Available 2026)

The role of Graduate Sustainable Design Analyst involves supporting building performance analysis, participating in design and strategy development for decarbonized energy systems, and contributing to sustainability research and project deliverables.


Responsibilities

  • Support building performance analysis by developing lifecycle cost calculations, water balance calculations, building energy/performance optimization studies, renewable and distributed energy feasibility studies, operational and embodied carbon calculations, or resilience assessments, under guidance from more senior members of the team
  • Participate in design, analysis and strategy development of decarbonized energy systems including building-level MEP systems, building energy efficiency and electrification strategies, on-site renewable energy and storage strategies and net-zero grid interactive projects
  • Work towards proficiency in thermal simulations and analysis for a variety of project design goals and outcomes (energy, carbon, comfort, etc.)
  • Support senior staff in the delivery of sustainable design and analysis work
  • Prepare written reports, visuals, graphics, and other project deliverables for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Participate in early design charrettes and workshops to enhance sustainability, holistic design approaches, and design coordination
  • Contribute to projects at various stages of ideation or implementation at various scales of intervention, from single measures to fit-outs, to master-planning, and infrastructure developments
  • Conduct research into a variety of sustainability, decarbonization, resilience, and equity topics (e.g., sustainability and/or resilience policy, health of communities, and social equity)
  • Conduct site visits for field data collection and actively participate in internal or external client meetings along with more senior members of the team
  • Contribute to project deliverables including presentations and reports, managing sub-tasks to assist the team in tracking project deliverables and schedules

Skills

  • Knowledge base of building systems and building design, including building fabric, lighting control strategies, mechanical HVAC, renewable energy generation systems, external solar shading devices, daylighting strategies, and sizing mechanical plant and equipment
  • Knowledge of building energy simulation, whole-life carbon software such as, EnergyPlus, IES VE, Rhino + Grasshopper, SketchUp, OpenStudio, Tally, Athena Impact Estimator, One Click LCA
  • Knowledge of sustainability frameworks such as LEED, WELL, Fitwel, Living Building Challenge, Envision, etc
  • Successful completion of coursework in sustainability, energy, operational/embodied carbon, climate change, resilience, lifecycle costs, distributed energy resources
  • Excellent time management skills, with ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional research, writing, communication, and presentation skills to communicate work in a clear, concise, and logical format
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
  • Proficient in use of software like MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, interactive Adobe PDFs
  • Candidate must be eligible to work in the US without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future to be considered for this role
  • Master's degree related to sustainability in the built environment or building science, with a bachelor's degree in Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, or Public Health Engineering, or similar program preferred
  • Professional accreditation under a sustainability rating framework such as LEED or WELL accredited professional preferred
