[Remote] Dental Billing Lead

The Dental Billing Lead will manage the billing operations for a group of dental clinics, ensuring accurate claim submissions and coordinating a team of junior billers.
Responsibilities
• Own the full billing cycle for a defined region of 6–12 clinics, including claim submission, follow-up, and insurance payment posting
• Coordinate and guide a small team of junior billers assisting with your region’s workload
• Submit claims batched by dental offices, reviewing for accuracy before submission
• Identify potential coding or claim setup issues and communicate with offices to resolve discrepancies before submission
• Communicate regularly with multiple dental clinics, maintaining professionalism, clarity, and accountability in all interactions
• Manage denials and rejections, ensuring quick resolution and consistent claim turnaround times
• Post insurance payments accurately, processing EOBs and addressing any discrepancies
• Complete daily, weekly, and monthly billing reports for each assigned clinic and review and approve reports submitted by junior dental billers
• Contribute to SOP development to standardize processes and improve team alignment and efficiency
• Assist with recruiting efforts, including interviewing and evaluating new dental billing candidates
• Review and provide feedback to Toothy’s product team to enhance AI billing automation and reporting tools
• Perform account reconciliation and handle pre-determinations, prior authorizations, and fee schedule updates when requested by management or clients
• Other duties as assigned
Skills
• 3+ years of experience in dental billing, insurance coordination, or revenue cycle management
• Deep, hands-on expertise across the billing lifecycle, including: Claim submission — reviewing claims batched by offices for completeness, verifying attachments, understanding clinical narratives to determine required documentation, and ensuring compliance with payer requirements
• Claim follow-ups — tracking unpaid or denied claims, identifying trends, and coordinating timely appeals or corrections
• Insurance payment posting — accurately posting insurance remittances, applying adjustments, and resolving discrepancies in EOBs
• Strong understanding of which attachments (X-rays, narratives, intraoral photos) are required for procedures such as crowns, implants, and periodontal treatments
• Able to interpret clinical narratives sufficiently to ensure the correct attachments are included for claim success
• Proficiency with dental billing software (Dentrix, Open Dental, Eaglesoft, etc.) and insurance carrier portals
• Proven ability or aptitude to manage billing operations for multiple clinics simultaneously
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fully remote team environment
• Strong attention to detail, accountability, and time management
• Reliable internet connection and a quiet, professional home workspace
• Prior experience working at a dental billing company or handling billing for multiple clinics
• Experience leading or mentoring other billers
• Experience working with Medicaid plans and understanding state-specific billing requirements
• Familiarity with multiple dental specialties, such as Pediatrics, Periodontics, Implants, Orthodontics, Oral Surgery, and Endodontics
