Data Visualization & Insights Analyst
The Department of Social Services - Officer of the Director is seeking a Data Visualization & Insights Analyst to join our team.
Job Location: Statewide
The work location for this position can be anywhere in the state with 10%-15% of travel expected (if outside of Jefferson City).
Job Salary: $75,000/year
Individual(s) selected for this position may receive a higher rate based on a pay differential (e.g., shift, or time-of-service pay).
Under general supervision, the Data Visualization & Insights Analyst transforms complex program, operational, and key performance data into clear, actionable visual insights that support executive decision-making and frontline management across the Department. Working in close partnership with program and support divisions, this role transforms raw data into clean and usable data sets, designs and maintains dashboards, reports, and visual tools that improve transparency, accountability, and performance management. This position emphasizes clarity, usability, and impact over technical complexity, ensuring data products support strategic priorities, operational improvement, and compliance reporting.
Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain automated ETL processes to extract data from various sources
• Design, build, and maintain dashboards, score cards, and visual reports for executive leadership, managers, operational teams, and a public audience
• Transform raw, unstructured data into clean, usable datasets for reporting and analysis
• Translate complex datasets into clear, intuitive visualizations that highlight trends, risks, performance gaps, and opportunities
• Build and optimize SQL pipelines to streamline data ingestion and enhance data accessibility
• Troubleshoot data quality issues and monitor ETL job performance
• Define data requirements and map source-to-target data flows
• Ensure consistent definitions and visual standards across agency dashboards while accommodating division-specific needs
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of relevant experience (Substitutions allowed)
• 5+ years experience as a Data Analyst or similar role
• Proficiency in SQL (joins, aggregations, CTEs)
• Experience building ETL pipelines (dbt, Informatica, or similar)
• Demonstrated ability to translate business questions into effective visual representations
• Experience working with large, complex datasets, preferably in government, health and human services, or similarly regulated environment
Experience in lieu of education will be considered. Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis for denying consideration.
Preferred Qualifications
• Tableau Desktop Specialist/Certified Data Analyst/Power BI Data Analyst Associate or equivalent
• Working knowledge of SQL for data extraction and validation
• Strong facilitation, analytical, and problem-solving skills; ability to work effectively with frontline staff and executive leadership
• Ability to think independently and solve problems quickly and creatively.
• Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and integrity
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, agency environment
