Senior 3D Character Artist II
About the position
We're building a world-class team of game-makers: folks bursting with creativity, who balance candor with compassion, and hold themselves and their peers accountable to what's best for players.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Character Artist II to join our art team and help create stunning, memorable 3D characters for our brand-new video game IP. This role will report directly into the Character Art Director.
Responsibilities
• Work with the Art Directors and the art team to create high-quality 3D characters and creatures that achieve the artistic vision and style of our game
• Build low and high resolution character models that will include organic and hard-surface elements, UVs, textures, and materials
• Create high-resolution digital sculpts based on both concept art and collaborative brainstorming
• Partner with Concept, Animation, Tech Art, Design, and Engineering to ensure our characters function within our product and performance requirements, including gameplay, animation, and rendering needs
• Participate in look development for our 3D characters from start to finish, including prototyping material networks in Unreal
• Help develop a scalable character pipeline, including outfit customizations, LODs, optimization, and standardization of topologies across the game
• Coordinate with R&D, Tech Art, and Engineering to help create tools and techniques to improve character development
• Keep up to date with industry trends and new technologies, and apply this knowledge to improve the quality of the game's character assets and our creative pipeline
Requirements
• You have 8+ years of experience working as a 3D character artist for AAA games
• A clear and demonstrated understanding of human anatomy, proportion, silhouette, and stylized character design
• Visual and technical understanding in modeling, sculpting, and look development in the Unreal Engine
• Experience building meshes and topology efficiently for clean deformation for animation
• Experience working with Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Photoshop, and Unreal Engine
• Knowledge of asset creation pipelines and workflows, including authoring for PBR shaders, character customization, and material creation inside of Unreal
• You are a natural collaborator, willing to share, mentor, and partner with peers and other teams
• You are passionate about gaming and the ability to bring a unique perspective to character art in pursuit of enhancing the overall game experience
