Description • As a Staff Quality Engineer at Perplexity, you will be at the forefront of revolutionizing how people search and interact with the internet. This pivotal role offers a unique opportunity to shape and own the quality engineering strategy for our groundbreaking products, ensuring they meet the highest standards of reliability, performance, and user satisfaction. • You will serve as the technical leader, responsible for architecting and implementing scalable test strategies and robust automation frameworks that are foundational to our rapid development cycles. Your expertise will be crucial in embedding quality assurance principles and practices into every phase of the software development lifecycle, from initial design and development through to deployment and ongoing maintenance. • This is more than just a bug-finding role; it's about proactively architecting systems and processes that prevent defects from occurring in the first place. You will collaborate intimately with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Software Engineering, and Customer Support, to identify potential risks, define comprehensive quality requirements, and ensure our products not only function flawlessly but also deliver an exceptional user experience. • Your responsibilities will encompass the end-to-end ownership of our test architecture, the development and maintenance of sophisticated automation frameworks, and the implementation of stringent quality gates within our Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines across all our platforms. • You will be instrumental in fostering a test-driven engineering culture by providing technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineering teams. This involves championing best practices in testing and quality assurance, and empowering engineers to take ownership of quality within their respective domains. • A key aspect of your role will be to partner closely with engineering and product teams to proactively identify potential risks and challenges early in the development process. You will translate these insights into actionable quality requirements that guide development from the conceptual design phase all the way through to product release. • You will be responsible for establishing key quality metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that provide clear visibility into our product health. These metrics will not only measure current performance but also serve as a critical guide for continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring we consistently elevate our product quality. • You will continuously evaluate and integrate cutting-edge tools and technologies to enhance our testing capabilities and maintain our competitive edge. This includes staying abreast of the latest advancements in quality engineering and automation, and strategically adopting solutions that drive efficiency and effectiveness. • Your leadership will extend to defining and implementing robust testing strategies for complex, distributed systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance under demanding conditions. • You will play a crucial role in the development and execution of comprehensive test plans, including functional, integration, performance, security, and usability testing, ensuring all aspects of the product are thoroughly validated. • By championing a proactive approach to quality, you will help minimize technical debt and reduce the cost of quality by catching issues earlier in the development cycle. • You will contribute to the strategic roadmap for quality engineering at Perplexity, aligning our testing efforts with the company's ambitious growth and innovation goals. • This role requires a deep understanding of modern software development practices, agile methodologies, and the unique challenges associated with building and scaling AI-powered products. • You will be a key advocate for the user, ensuring that every feature and update released by Perplexity is of the highest quality and contributes positively to the user's experience. • Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely will be vital in collaborating with diverse stakeholders and driving consensus on quality initiatives. • Ultimately, you will be empowered to make significant technical decisions and drive impactful changes that directly influence the success and reputation of Perplexity's products.
