Women in Science, Zoology Internship (undergraduate) Project Description This project aims to document and synthesize taxonomic, morphological, and visual information for South American amphibian type specimens housed at the Field Museum through the creation of a comprehensive illustrated catalog. By integrating collections-based research with science education and outreach, the project will improve accessibility to primary biodiversity data while supporting ongoing taxonomic and systematic studies. Position Summary The Undergraduate Intern will support a collections-based research project documenting South American amphibian type specimens at the Field Museum through the creation of an illustrated catalog. The intern will receive training in museum research methods and contribute to data organization, specimen imaging, and taxonomic synthesis. Duties and Responsibilities • Photograph amphibian specimens following standardized museum protocols • Perform basic image editing and digital file management • Collect morphological measurements using established methods • Organize taxonomic information and build standardized data tables • Assist with preparation of figure plates for scientific publication • Participate in discussions of taxonomic updates and data interpretation Minimum Education Required • Current undergraduate student in biology or related field Minimum Experience Required • Biology or related discipline preferred but not required Required Skills and Qualifications • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail • Basic proficiency with spreadsheets and data handling • Interest in taxonomy, biodiversity research, or museum collections • Ability to learn standardized scientific protocols • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively Depending on the intern’s efforts and the outcomes of the project, we anticipate that this work may result in their meaningful contribution to a peer-reviewed publication, providing experience in scientific writing, collaboration, and public-facing communication of biodiversity research. If selected, interns will be expected to attend an on-site HR orientation on June 22nd, 2026. Work on the internship will continue through July 31, 2026. Hourly rate of $17.75 @ 35 hours a week for 6 weeks. Intern candidates will be contacted and selected through email communication and virtual interviews conducted via Zoom.
