As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.</span></p></div><p><span><strong>About the role:</strong></span></p> <p>We are looking for a Mobile Engineering Manager to lead two high-impact mobile pods:</p> <ol> <li><strong>Mobile Platform</strong> – Owns cross-platform strategy, build systems, CI/CD, performance optimization, reliability, observability, and architectural evolution.</li> <li><strong>Mobile Product </strong>– Owns end-customer feature development (e.g., messaging, workflows, dashboards) with high product velocity and quality.</li> </ol> <p>This leader will balance long-term architectural rigor with near-term product delivery, ensuring Samsara’s mobile apps are scalable & performant while providing intuitive & delightful experiences for customers operating in the physical world.</p> <p>This role requires strong technical judgment, cross-functional leadership, and the ability to build a culture of engineering excellence. This role reports to the VP, Engineering and supports 13-14 engineers</p> <p>This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US or Canada. <br /><br /></p> <p><span><strong>In this role, you will own: </strong></span></p> <h4><strong>1. Mobile Platform Strategy</strong></h4> <ul> <li>Define and evolve cross-platform strategy (Native vs React Native vs Compose/KMP)</li> <li>Improve build systems, CI times, and developer productivity</li> <li>Establish performance SLOs (launch time, page load, memory, crash-free sessions)</li> <li>Drive architectural simplification and reduce tech fragmentation</li> <li>Introduce AI-assisted SDLC tooling where impactful</li> <li>Ensure mobile scalability for IoT-heavy, real-time use cases</li> </ul> <h4><strong>2. Product Delivery Excellence</strong></h4> <ul> <li>Lead customer-facing feature development (e.g., messaging, fleet workflows)</li> <li>Partner closely with Product & Design to deliver high-quality mobile experiences</li> <li>Balance feature velocity with platform health</li> <li>Drive disciplined engineering practices (PR reviews, testing, observability)</li> </ul> <h4><strong>3. Team Leadership & Talent Development</strong></h4> <ul> <li>Manage ~13-14 engineers across 2 pods</li> <li>Hire and retain high-performing mobile engineers</li> <li>Develop senior ICs and future tech leads</li> <li>Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and technical rigor</li> <li>Coach engineers to improve system design and execution skills</li> </ul> <h4><strong>4. Operational & Execution Excellence</strong></h4> <ul> <li>Establish measurable KPIs:<br /> <ul> <li>Build time; CI stability; Crash-free rate; App startup latency; Feature cycle time</li> </ul> </li> <li>Ensure predictable sprint delivery</li> <li>Improve incident response and reliability practices</li> <li>Maintain high engineering quality standards</li> </ul> <p><strong>5. This is not just a people manager. This is a technical EM who:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Can debate architecture credibly with Staff engineers</li> <li>Knows when to invest in platform vs product</li> <li>Has led large migrations or platform rebuilds</li> <li>Understands both developer experience and customer experience deeply</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p><span><strong>Minimum requirements for the role:</strong></span></p> <h4><strong>1. Technical Leadership</strong></h4> <ul> <li>8+ years of experience in mobile engineering (Android/iOS)</li> <li>3+ years of engineering management experience</li> <li>Deep experience in at least one native stack (Android or iOS)</li> <li>Strong understanding of cross-platform tradeoffs</li> <li>Experience improving performance (memory, startup, network, UI responsiveness)</li> <li>Familiarity with modern mobile CI/CD systems</li> </ul> <h4><strong>2. Organizational Impact</strong></h4> <ul> <li>Proven track record leading platform modernization initiatives</li> <li>Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders</li> <li>Experience managing multi-team technical migrations</li> <li>Strong written communication (RFCs, technical strategy docs)</li> </ul> <h4><strong>3. Leadership Traits</strong></h4> <ul> <li>High technical bar</li> <li>Strong ownership mindset</li> <li>Bias toward data-driven decisions</li> <li>Comfortable navigating ambiguity</li> <li>Balances long-term architecture with short-term delivery</li> <li>Mentors engineers to raise collective capability<br /><br /></li> </ul> <p><span><strong>An ideal candidate:</strong></span></p> <ul> <li>Experience with Kotlin Multiplatform / React Native / Compose Multiplatform</li> <li>Experience with AI-assisted development workflows</li> <li>Experience working in IoT or real-time systems</li> </ul><div><div><div><p><strong>Samsara’s Compensation Philosophy: </strong>Samsara’s compensation program is designed to deliver Total Direct Compensation (based on role, level, and geography) that is at or above market. We do this through our base salary + bonus/variable + restricted stock unit awards (RSUs) for eligible roles. For eligible roles, a new hire RSU award may be awarded at the time of hire, and additional RSU refresh grants may be awarded annually.</p> <p>We pay for performance, and top performers in eligible roles may receive above-market equity refresh awards which allow employees to achieve higher market.</p></div><div>The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below.
