Adjunct (Part-Time) History Faculty
Description
West Shore Community College is seeking adjunct/part-time faculty with the availability to teach online History courses starting with our Fall 2026 semester. This appointment is for one semester of sabbatical coverage only.
Seeking individuals to teach the following courses for a total of 9 contact hours:
HIS 145: US History to 1877 (2 sections) - This course offers a survey of American history from the time of the first European contact to the Civil War and Reconstruction.
HIS 141: Western Civilization to 1600 - This course offers a review of significant events in the rise of western civilization from prehistory to early modern times.
Part-time faculty positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed. Responsibilities of teaching include preparing and presenting lectures and labs, writing and grading exams, meeting with students as needed, and assigning grades.
Job Duties
• Instruct students in assigned courses
• Maintain academic standards and cover all provided student learning objectives
• Prepare up-to-date course syllabus and materials in accordance with college guidelines
• Monitor student progress and meet with students as needed
• Keep adequate and accurate records
• Use the learning management system to post course materials and grades
• Enter final course grades online
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• Master's degree in History, or Master's with 18 graduate hours in History
• Successful experience teaching online
Desired Qualifications
• Experience with Canvas as Learning Management System
• Experience teaching at a Community College
All courses are taught fully online for 15 weeks.
Accountabilities: Under the direct supervision of the Department Chair, each part time faculty member is responsible for satisfying the educational, administrative, and fiscal requirements inherent in his/her position.
Compensation:Wage pay for this position starts at $790/contact hour, and is based on degree and course contact hours.
