College Counselor - Dance Specialist

College in 3-2-1/Dance into College seeking a passionate and dynamic College Counselor specializing in Dance to join our growing practice. In this part-time, contractor role, you will serve as a dedicated mentor and advisor to students, guiding them through academic planning, career discovery, and the college application process. Your knowledge and experience in dance education or dance team coaching will help students achieve their goals of obtaining a dance degree or participating on a college dance team. College in 3-2-1 has served high school students applying to college since 2017. In 2021, we developed our program, Dance into College, designed to provide a specialized focus on the needs of high school dancers pursuing both academic and dance goals in college. Our boutique, one-of-a-kind firm is passionate about guiding dancers to their best-fit college. Our clients have attended a variety of colleges, from Ivy League universities to 4-year college dance conservatory programs.
Duties
• Provide comprehensive college counseling tailored to students pursuing college BFA/BA dance majors or college dance teams, ensuring they present their best college application and audition/recruitment materials.
• Offer individual, virtual counseling sessions to support students’ personal development, motivation, and college application progress.
• Develop expertise in colleges and dance opportunities through ongoing research, college visits and other professional development opportunities.
• Perform advising on college list building and essay development.
• Collaborate with staff to develop materials to support service delivery.
• Perform administrative functions, including maintaining students' online portal, meeting notes, and other support tools.
• Support business growth through engagement in marketing and industry activities and events.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in English, Communications, Marketing, or Counseling. Master's degree preferred.
• 2-5 years of experience as an Independent Educational Consultant or high school college counselor.
• Demonstrated interest in the performing arts, specifically dance. Applicants without knowledge of college dance must be willing to self-study with guidance.
• Accomodate student's availability with some evening and weekend hours
Preferred Background
• Working experience in the dance industry as a dance major, performer, teacher, dance team coach, or former dance team member.
• College counseling certificate or willing to obtain it at one's own expense within 18 months
• Membership in IECA, HECA or other college counseling organizations
• Member of the National Dance Coaches Association or the National Dance Education Organization
Required Skills
• Office tools such as Google Suite, Calendly, Trello
• Ability to effectively communicate with high school students and parents
• Amazing writing and editing skills to support student essay development
Compensation
• $50-52/hour based on experience.
• This position has the potential to expand to 30 hours week within 12-18 months.
Pay: $50.00 - $55.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15.0 – 20.0 per week
