Key Responsibilities • Conduct comprehensive virtual genetic counseling sessions, including risk assessment, education, and psychosocial support. • Interpret complex genetic test results (e.g., NIPT, carrier screening, whole exome sequencing) and effectively communicate findings to patients and referring providers. • Educate patients and families on genetic conditions, inheritance patterns, testing options, and potential outcomes. • Facilitate informed decision-making regarding genetic testing and management strategies. • Document all patient interactions, genetic assessments, and recommendations accurately and promptly in electronic health records. • Collaborate with referring physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care. • Maintain strict adherence to ethical guidelines and professional standards for genetic counseling, particularly in a telehealth setting. • Stay current with advancements in genetic technology, research, and clinical guidelines through continuous professional development. Required Skills • Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program. • Board Certification or active Candidacy for Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors (CAGC). • Current licensure/registration to practice genetic counseling in Ontario or eligibility for licensure/registration. • Minimum of 3 years of post-certification experience in genetic counseling. • Demonstrated experience with telehealth platforms and virtual patient care delivery. • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex medical information clearly and empathetically. • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems. Preferred Qualifications • Experience in a diverse range of genetic counseling specialties (e.g., prenatal, cancer, general genetics). • Familiarity with various genetic testing laboratories and their offerings. • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset. • Experience with quality improvement initiatives in a telehealth setting.
