Position Summary:
We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Mortgage Appraisal Underwriter to join our mortgage operations team. This role is responsible for reviewing and analyzing property collateral to ensure it meets investor and agency guidelines, assessing appraisal reports, and validating property eligibility. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mortgage underwriting principles, collateral risk assessment, and regulatory compliance. Proficiency in appraisal review and attention to detail are essential in this fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities:
• Review appraisal reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with investor and agency guidelines.
• Evaluate property eligibility, market conditions, and comparable sales to assess collateral risk.
• Identify and resolve discrepancies in appraisal data, property characteristics, and valuation conclusions.
• Communicate with appraisers, processors, and underwriters to clarify appraisal findings and request revisions when necessary.
• Ensure all collateral documentation is properly stored, organized, and accessible for audits and investor reviews.
• Utilize automated valuation tools (AVMs) and collateral risk platforms to support underwriting decisions.
• Maintain knowledge of current investor guidelines, including Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, Non-QM, Jumbo and USDA requirements.
• Collaborate with underwriting and closing teams to ensure timely and accurate loan decisions.
• Prioritize and manage multiple loan files in a high-volume environment while meeting strict deadlines.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 2 years of experience in mortgage underwriting or collateral review.
• Strong understanding of appraisal methodology, property valuation, and collateral risk assessment.
• Proficiency in reviewing appraisal reports and identifying red flags or inconsistencies.
• Familiarity with investor guidelines (FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, USDA, Non-QM and Jumbo) and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with underwriting systems and collateral review tools (e.g., UCDP, Collateral Underwriter, Encompass).
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with internal teams and external partners.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of mortgage loan products and underwriting processes is a plus.
Pay Disclosure:
The starting base pay range for this position is $35.00/hr. The actual base is dependent on many factors such as: work experience, business needs, market demands, and other compensation components. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
