Tax Accountant with experience in Puerto Rico corporate tax compliance

About the Role We’re looking for an experienced Accountant with hands-on U.S. tax preparation experience to join our network and support U.S.-based clients under a fully remote contractor model. In this role, you will prepare and review individual and/or business U.S. tax returns, ensure compliance with federal and state requirements, and support clients with year-round tax planning and accounting needs. In addition to tax preparation, you may be able to help with general accounting tasks, including reconciliations, journal entries, and monthly financial reporting, as needed. ResponsibilitiesU.S. Tax Preparation & Compliance • Prepare and review Federal and State income tax returns (Forms 1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065, Schedule C, Schedule E, etc.). • Prepare supporting schedules, workpapers, and documentation for all tax filings. • Conduct tax research and ensure compliance with IRS regulations. • Assist clients with tax planning, estimated taxes, and year-end preparation. • Review financial information for accuracy prior to tax preparation. General Accounting Support (as needed) • Prepare and record journal entries for assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenses. • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts. • Assist with monthly financial statements and basic bookkeeping tasks. • Identify discrepancies and propose corrective actions when needed. • Support external audits by preparing documentation and assisting with inquiries. Client Collaboration • Communicate regularly with clients regarding tax questions, documentation needs, and filing timelines. • Provide clear explanations and actionable financial insights. • Document service tasks and ensure deliverables are completed on time. • Collaborate with internal teams to maintain service quality and client satisfaction. • Understand cybersecurity and data protection practices. • Knowledge of best practices to work with remote teams. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration (Accounting concentration required). • 4+ years of hands-on experience preparing U.S. tax returns (individual and/or business). • Strong understanding of IRS regulations, federal and state compliance, and common U.S. tax forms. • Experience with U.S. tax software (e.g., Drake, ProSeries, Lacerte, UltraTax, TaxSlayer). • Experience with accounting platforms such as QuickBooks, Xero, or similar tools preferred. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Spanish is a plus. • Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills. • Ability to work independently and manage multiple clients during peak tax periods. • Availability to work standard or U.S.-aligned business hours during tax season.
