Medical Billing Subcontractor (1099)

Overview Part-Time | 5–7.5 Hours Weekly | Remote | SOP-Driven LN Virtual Administrator is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented medical biller to support mental health practices. This is a 1099 independent contractor position, not a W2 employee role. The schedule is consistent at 5–7.5 hours per week to start, with potential for growth as additional billing groups are onboarded. Growth is possible but not guaranteed on a specific timeline. Responsibilities • Submit and monitor insurance claims • Work clearinghouse rejections and payer denials • Perform A/R follow-up • Post insurance payments and adjustments • Follow payer-specific rules and internal SOPs • Prepare and submit claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, adhering to payer guidelines • Apply appropriate coding including CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), and ICD coding standards to facilitate precise billing • Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies • Maintain detailed documentation of billing activities, medical records, and correspondence for audit readiness • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and resolve billing discrepancies promptly • Stay updated on changes in medical coding regulations, insurance policies, and billing best practices to ensure compliance and optimize revenue Requirements • 2+ years medical billing experience (mental health preferred) • Experience with major payers (BCBS, UHC/Optum, Aetna, Cigna, Medicare/Medicaid) • Experience working remotely • Comfortable working as a 1099 independent contractor • Able to commit to a consistent 5–7.5 hours weekly • Must be comfortable following established SOPs • Strong communication and follow-through Important If you are seeking full-time employment, guaranteed growth hours, or are unsure about independent contractor work, this role may not be the right fit.
