About the Opportunity
Cedar Crest College and Cressman Library are searching for 2 part-time Reference Assistants to support the following:
Provides Library users with assistance and guidance in using the Library's collections and services to fulfill their needs. Supervises student assistants in Lending Services. Represents all departments and aspects of the Library to the public when on duty during evening and weekend shifts. Runs events, designs displays, and posts updates to social media to promote the library.
Expected Schedule
Key Responsibilities
General and Administrative:
Opens, closes, and secures the Library building during assigned shifts.
Works as a team member with library colleagues to deliver effective, student-centered library services.
Develops job skills reinforcing the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Plans, implements, and evaluates special projects and assignments approved by the Library Director.
Lending and Access Services:
Interprets the Library's lending and interlibrary loan policies and procedures to users.
Checks out and renews circulating materials and equipment.
Supervises established circulation/reserve policies and procedures, including Student Workers, in the absence of the Lending Services Librarian.
Assists with data analysis and usage reports to guide service decisions.
Develop and model excellent customer service and demonstrate a strong commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive learning and work environment.
Outreach and Engagement:
Designs and implements library displays, events, and social media posts to promote library services and resources.
Collaborates with colleagues on library-wide initiatives to engage the campus community.
Develops outreach strategies tailored to academic departments and student groups.
Represents the library at campus events, orientations, and community-building programs.
Contributes to assessment of outreach and engagement activities to improve impact and visibility.
Qualifications
What We're Looking For
Education and Training
Bachelor’s degree in applicable discipline preferred
Prior library experience preferred
Demonstrated experience providing exceptional customer service
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Proficiency with computers and office automation, including word processing and knowledge of the Microsoft Office environment and library software.
Strong organizational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to triage and set priorities.
Able to remain tactful and professional during busy and stressful times.
Able to work independently as well as a team member within the department and with others.
Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to interact with employees, students, volunteers, and the public in a positive, professional manner.
Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility in multi-tasking and responding to various administrative styles.
Commitment to discretion and confidentiality with sound judgment when handling difficult issues.
Good critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Manual dexterity in order to operate a personal computer, printer and other office equipment.
Able to stand and/or sit continually to perform essential job functions for the entire shift.
Able to independently travel throughout campus to complete tasks
Able to lift and deliver light-weight packages to faculty offices or other office buildings on campus.
Able to see and hear to perform all required duties related to the position.
