As a Chat Moderator for this event, you'll play a vital role in creating a safe and inclusive online environment that allows participants to engage in open and respectful dialogue.
**Key Responsibilities**
As a Chat Moderator for the Festival of Homiletics 2025, you'll be responsible for:
* Monitoring real-time chat conversations during the following dates:
+ Thursday, May 8, 2025 (hours vary, 5 hours)
+ Friday, May 9, 2025 (hours vary, 5 hours)
+ Monday, May 12, 2025 (8:00 AM - 7:00 PM, 11 hours)
+ Tuesday, May 13, 2025 (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, 9 hours)
+ Wednesday, May 14, 2025 (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, 9 hours)
+ Thursday, May 15, 2025 (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, 9 hours)
+ Friday, May 16, 2025 (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, 9 hours)
* Applying moderation guidelines with discernment, allowing for theological diversity while maintaining respect
* Addressing inappropriate content following established protocols
* Directing technical support issues to appropriate channels
* Documenting concerning interactions for the Customer Service team
* Collaborating with the event team via Slack for escalated situations
**Moderation Approach**
As a Chat Moderator for the Festival of Homiletics 2025, you'll employ a light-touch moderation approach that prioritizes open dialogue. You'll intervene only when necessary to maintain a respectful environment, differentiating between theological disagreement (permitted) and personal attacks (not permitted). You'll also follow established protocols for warnings and user management.
**Required Qualifications**
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
* Excellent written communication skills with a diplomatic approach
* Familiarity with online community management and chat moderation
* Understanding of theological/religious discourse and sensitivity to diverse perspectives
* Ability to make quick, fair judgments about appropriate content
* Experience with online event platforms (Whova experience a plus)
* Availability throughout the Festival of Homiletics schedule
**Technical Requirements**
To perform this role, you'll need:
* Reliable high-speed internet connection
* Comfort navigating between multiple platforms (Whova, Slack, Google Docs)
* Ability to take screenshots when needed for documentation
**Hours and Compensation**
Hours will align with Festival of Homiletics 2025 programming, and you'll be compensated at a rate of $18.00/hour. Training will be provided prior to the event.
**Location**
This is a remote position, with 100% of the work being done from home.
