Senior PHP Developer

The Opportunity Modern Tribe is looking for a Senior PHP Developer with advanced PHP experience to join our agency. This role will offer you the opportunity to become a leader at Modern Tribe. You will be helping to build and inspire an awesome dev team working on innovative and large scale Laravel and WordPress installations. We are looking for a backend developer that is already actively working in PHP on a day-to-day basis. We want you to be as excited and as passionate as we are about what we are creating with PHP. This is what we’re looking for beyond lines of code. • Collaborate Collaborate with the project strategist and other developers to articulate the best technological solution for the problem at hand • Analyze Analyze user story acceptance criteria to ensure technical feasibility and point out potential issues • Lead Lead a team of developers to make sure we can deliver on time, on budget and on scope • Architect Architect and develop new features, custom functionality and frontend integration • Quality Write high quality code with readability, efficiency and maintainability in mind • Develop Develop and maintain complex Laravel and WordPress based applications. The technical Specific skills and proficiencies You will use your deep knowledge within PHP to solve both simple and complex challenges, across a variety of applications and websites. When paired with your understanding of best practices in accessibility, performance, and architecture, you ultimately produce code and experiences that are scalable and delightful. We know not everyone is an expert in everything. Your foundational knowledge is important, paired with the ability to learn and improve over time. Personal Competencies • Strong communication skills • Experience working as part of a remote team • Self-motivated, detail-oriented • Strong organizational skills • A methodical approach to all tasks • Ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines • Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time and complete tasks in a timely manner • Ability to work remotely with little-to-no supervision is a must • Excited to be part of a team with the potential for a long term relationship • Skilled at clearly conveying technical concepts to both technical and non-technical team members through verbal and written communication • Experience working in an agency and/or as a contractor • Fluent English speaker Knowledge & Experience • 5+ years experience working as a backend PHP developer on production sites • 2+ years focused on leading the technical direction of a team and mentoring development team members • Extensive experience implementing complex WordPress websites and Laravel applications • Skilled at crafting modern PHP (for example: autoloading, dependency management, dependency injection, templating libraries, automated testing, OOP, and/or frameworks like Symfony or Laravel, etc) • Excellent understanding of OOP and better practices • A comprehensive understanding of what it takes to write secure and performant code • Experience working with at least one automated testing framework • Thorough knowledge of MySQL • Thorough understanding of the software development life cycle (i.e. seeing a project through from spec to completion) Bonus Points • Experience with continuous integration and automated deployment pipelines • Experience with JavaScript application frameworks • Experience with server technologies like Redis or ElasticSearch Who we are About Modern Tribe At Modern Tribe, we’re remote-first, people-first, and built around the belief that amazing work comes from happy teams.
