[Remote] Sr. Postgres DBA

Infinite Computer Solutions is seeking a PostgreSQL Database Administrator to manage and optimize PostgreSQL database operations across their AWS-based SaaS platform. The role focuses on ensuring performance, availability, scalability, and cost efficiency of multi-tenant databases while collaborating with various teams to implement best practices. Responsibilities • Manage, monitor, and maintain Amazon RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL clusters across development, staging, and production environments • Design and implement database schemas, partitions, and indexing strategies optimized for multi-tenant SaaS workloads • Ensure high availability through Aurora clustering, cross-region replication, and automated failover configurations • Perform database migrations, version upgrades, and patching with minimal downtime • Prepare database changelogs using Liquibase • Monitor storage growth, IOPS utilization, and query performance using AWS CloudWatch, Performance Insights, and third-party observability tools • Conduct query tuning, index management, and vacuum/analyze scheduling to maintain optimal performance • Partner with application developers to optimize SQL queries and ORM usage patterns • Identify and remediate Aurora performance bottlenecks, including buffer cache tuning and connection pooling (e.g., PgBouncer, RDS Proxy) • Develop infrastructure-as-code (IaC) templates (Terraform or CloudFormation) to standardize database provisioning • Automate maintenance tasks (e.g., backups, failover testing, cost monitoring) using AWS Lambda, Python, or Bash scripting • Integrate database lifecycle operations with CI/CD pipelines for consistent deployments and schema management • Support FinOps and cost optimization by right-sizing RDS instances, leveraging Aurora Serverless v2, and managing reserved instances or savings plans • Implement and validate backup and disaster recovery (DR) strategies using Aurora snapshots and point-in-time recovery (PITR) • Enforce encryption in transit (SSL/TLS) and at rest (KMS) for all database instances • Manage user roles, IAM integration, and least-privilege access controls • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST, NIST 800-53, Fedramp, CMS, and internal data governance standards • Establish robust monitoring dashboards and alerts using Amazon CloudWatch, Datadog, or Prometheus/Grafana • Create operational runbooks for incident response, failover, and recovery scenarios • Track and report on database KPIs: uptime, latency, query performance, and replication lag • Partner with Cloud, DevOps, and Engineering teams to design resilient, scalable, and secure database architectures • Document procedures, schema standards, and operational playbooks for database management • Participate in on-call rotation to support 24x7 SaaS platform availability Skills • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience • 5+ years of PostgreSQL DBA experience, including 3+ years managing AWS RDS or Aurora PostgreSQL • Proven experience supporting multi-tenant, cloud-native SaaS applications • Deep understanding of PostgreSQL internals, replication, WAL management, and query optimization • Experience in Database Versioning tools like Liquibase, Flyway etc • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and automation frameworks (Ansible, Python, or Bash) • Strong knowledge of AWS ecosystem services: RDS, Aurora, S3, Lambda, CloudWatch, Secrets Manager, and KMS • Understanding of networking, VPC, and security group configurations related to RDS deployments • Familiarity with DevOps tools: Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions • Proficiency in monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus, CloudWatch Logs Insights) • Experience with Aurora Serverless v2, RDS Proxy, and cross-region replication setups • Exposure to microservices and containerized architectures (EKS, ECS, or Kubernetes Operators for PostgreSQL) • Knowledge of Citus, TimescaleDB, or PostGIS extensions for scalability and analytics • Background in FinOps, performance cost modeling, or database efficiency optimization • PostgreSQL certification (EDB, AWS Certified Database – Specialty) is a plus Company Overview • Next-Gen Business Technology Platformization™, AI and Product Engineering Services.
