Job Description: Job Summary • Lead the efforts of Employees in the Network Operations Control (NOC) to support the safe and efficient flying schedule of Southwest Airlines. Responsible to coordinate operational control, which is defined by the FAA as "making those decisions and performing those actions on a daily basis that are necessary to operate flights safely and in compliance with the regulations." which includes the exercise of authority over initiating, conducting and terminating a flight. Model the Southwest Way • Guide and lead Team Members using SWA talent management practices to coach, develop, and engage Employees • Adhere to Company Values and competencies to foster a Culture of inclusion, recognition, and support of a safe work environment • Invest in Leadership and self-growth through participating in continuous learning and development Responsibilities • Direct and coordinate the efforts of all groups, including Dispatch, assigned to the NOC • Designated by the Accountable Executive as the Safety and Security Management representative for the NOC • Maintain authority to stop or start operations into or out of airports using guidance provided by the Director of Operations • Support the flight schedule by coordinating with all operational groups. i.e. Flight Operations, Ground Operations, Dispatch, Maintenance • Ensure that pertinent information is available to assist Dispatch in creating aircraft routings • Ensure that excellent Customer Service is achieved through enhanced communication, coordination, and execution of our flight schedule • Provide Leadership to all personnel directly assigned to the NOC • Ensuring the management of safety and security risks to NOC Operations and that NOC Operations are conducted in accordance with conditions and restrictions of the Air Carrier Certificate and in compliance with applicable regulations and standards of the operator. • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Expert knowledge of aviation safety standards and safe operating practices relevant FARs, Southwest's Operations Specifications, and all appropriate maintenance and airworthiness requirements of FAR Parts 1, 21, 23, 25, 43, 45, 47, 65, 91, and 121, per FAR 119.65 (d) • Expert knowledge of Southwest Operations • Knowledge of strategic and financial analysis • Highly skilled in giving technical presentations and public speaking • Ability to assume a high level of responsibility and to provide direction in a Team-oriented environment • Ability to properly manage highly sensitive and confidential information • Ability to understand corporate financial analysis and financial statements • Ability to drive work effectively and manage Leadership to develop and implement Departmental and Company plans • Ability to partner effectively and maintain healthy working relationships with Labor Unions, operational and commercial leadership (at all levels), and external partners • Ability to contend with the range and complexity of large Departmental/business problems • Ability to plan and drive complex projects and programs to completion • Ability to make decisions thoughtfully but quickly based on the information at hand • Ability to possess strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate complex issues in a structured and concise manner • Ability to cast vision in a clear and concise manner, define expectations at varying levels of Leadership, and encourage open dialogue and healthy debate amongst Teams • Ability to design and conduct analyses, as well as synthesize recommendations and present to all levels to gain consensus • Ability to inspire Teams and Senior Leaders to perform with excellence Education • Required: High School Diploma or GED Experience • Demonstrated experience leading multiple teams or functions through subordinate leaders • Advanced level Business Acumen in functional area with understanding of broad business impacts • Expansive and far-reaching knowledge in: • Direct Leadership • Dispatch Operations • Southwest Airlines Operations • Organizational change management • Airline industry • Labor contract negotiations Licensing/Certification • N/A Physical Abilities • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job Other Qualifications • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986 • Must be at least 18 years of age • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines • Must be able to work extended hours based on operational needs Southwest Airlines is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
