Experienced Staff Data Engineer – Fleet Analytics & Big Data Platform Development (Remote/Hybrid)

Remote, USA Full-time Posted 2026-04-22
arenaflex is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Data Engineer to join our Fleet Analytics team. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of big data, software engineering, and innovation—helping to shape the future of data-driven decision-making across our organization. If you're passionate about leveraging massive datasets to drive meaningful impact, build scalable data solutions, and work with cutting-edge technologies, we'd love to hear from you. At arenaflex, data is deeply embedded in our product development and engineering culture. We rely on vast amounts of information to enhance autonomous driving features, optimize hardware designs, proactively identify potential issues, and improve overall system performance. We collect and analyze data from millions of connected devices across our product ecosystem to make our products safer, smarter, and more efficient. Our Fleet Analytics group serves as a critical enabler, empowering multiple teams to leverage the wealth of data we accumulate. We support engineers by providing direct data analysis and by developing self-service tools and applications. We operate a state-of-the-art internal data platform built on cloud infrastructure, utilizing open-source data science tools including Jupyter notebooks, Pandas, Bokeh, Superset, and Airflow. Our work has an immediate and measurable impact on product development and enables hundreds of engineers across disciplines to make data-informed decisions. We are looking for a talented Staff Data Engineer to develop applications that leverage our extensive device data. This role spans the full breadth of data engineering, analysis, and data science activities. You'll take a first-principles approach to problem-solving to inform future hardware and firmware designs while ensuring our existing products continue to meet our exacting standards. Your applications will include full-stack web applications, software frameworks for efficient training and modeling, and complex systems that drive actionable insights. You'll be responsible for bringing these solutions from concept to production in collaboration with the Fleet Analytics team, while providing ongoing maintenance and user support. Additionally, you'll occasionally partner with specialized teams in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or firmware engineering—joining critical missions to help define product requirements, optimize control algorithms, and improve overall product quality.

What You'll Do

  • Work closely with stakeholders to develop and maintain complex software systems that amplify the use of device data across the organization
  • Provide guidance to the data engineering and data science community regarding best practices, coding standards, and architectural patterns
  • Collaborate with engineers to drive adoption and utilization of applications and tools throughout the company
  • Write reproducible data analysis code over massive datasets using modern open-source technologies and cloud-based processing frameworks
  • Summarize and effectively communicate data analysis assumptions, methodologies, and results to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Build robust data pipelines to optimize the performance and accuracy of analysis workflows across the organization
  • Design and implement metrics, applications, and self-service tools that empower engineers to derive their own data insights
  • Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code that can be extended by other software engineers
  • Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to the professional development of your colleagues

What You'll Bring

  • 7+ years of professional software development experience in a related field
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with the ability to write efficient and optimized queries
  • Extensive experience with distributed data processing engines such as Apache Spark or similar frameworks
  • Proficiency with data science tools including Pandas, NumPy, R, MATLAB, or Octave
  • Demonstrated experience building data pipelines, web applications, and machine learning models in a professional environment
  • A solid foundation in statistics and quantitative analysis methods
  • Experience creating informative and visually appealing data visualizations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to refine ambiguous problem statements and determine optimal solutions using available data and first principles
  • A growth mindset—intellectually curious, humble, with a strong bias for action and iteration
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related quantitative field (or equivalent practical experience)

Nice to Have

  • Strong proficiency in Scala or other JVM-based languages
  • Understanding of distributed computing concepts and architectures (HDFS, Spark, Presto/Trino)
  • Experience with DevOps tools and practices—Linux, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, or similar technologies
  • Experience working with complex hardware systems and embedded data
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
  • Experience with cloud platforms and services (infrastructure, serverless computing, managed data services)
  • Knowledge of machine learning workflows, model training, and deployment practices
  • Experience in the automotive, IoT, or connected device industries
