Credit Risk Underwriter

About the Role: We're seeking a highly experienced Underwriter to support the growing workload in evaluating financial institutions. This is a hands-on, analytical role focused on underwriting banks and insurance companies, not retail or consumer loans. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of CAMELS methodology, credit ratings, and derivatives exposure (IRD, FX, RPA-Outs, RPA-Ins). Key Responsibilities: Perform full-cycle underwriting of financial counterparties (banks, insurance firms) Analyze financial statements and interpret complex ratios Apply the CAMELS framework to assess institutional credit risk Evaluate counterparties' exposure to derivatives, including interest rate derivatives (IRD), foreign exchange (FX), and repos (RPA-In/RPA-Out) Understand how market perception, reputation, and risk ratings influence product engagement Leverage credit ratings and internal scoring grids to determine risk levels Prepare detailed underwriting summaries with clear justification and rationale Support backlog of underwriting cases requiring immediate attention Qualifications: 7–10 years of experience underwriting financial institutions (not consumer lending) Strong working knowledge of CAMELS methodology Experience working with or underwriting regional banks (e.g., JPMorgan, Citi, Wells Fargo) Solid understanding of financial products: IRD, FX, RPA-Outs, RPA-Ins Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or CFA is a plus Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word; Salesforce experience is a plus Ability to work independently and clearly articulate underwriting decisions • ** Pay Rate- $90-$98/hour Russell Tobin offers eligible employee’s comprehensive healthcare coverage (medical, dental, and vision plans), supplemental coverage (accident insurance, critical illness insurance and hospital indemnity), 401(k)-retirement savings, life & disability insurance, an employee assistance program, legal support, auto, home insurance, pet insurance and employee discounts with preferred vendors.
