Sr. Instructional Designer and Writer, Reading Universe
About the position
Responsibilities
• Research, write, review, and copy edit content for Reading Universe skill explainers.
• Consult with expert advisers on reading and writing research.
• Draft print material and graphical presentations for skill explainers.
• Support video production by identifying and preparing schools for in-classroom video.
• Travel to film locations to support production and ensure fidelity of reading instruction.
• Review and comment on rough cuts of in-classroom video.
• Represent Reading Universe in meetings with partners, experts, and funders.
• Monitor blogs, websites, journals, and news articles for new developments in literacy.
• Ensure Reading Universe meets deadlines and commitments to funders and partners.
• Perform related special projects or other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• Five to ten years of teaching and/or coaching experience in grades pre-K through 6th grade.
• College degree, preferably in the humanities.
• Masters degree or doctoral degree in education or a related field strongly preferred.
• Experience with writing and implementing professional development efforts focused on literacy and elementary education.
• Experience as a published writer, especially articles about reading and elementary education.
Nice-to-haves
• Experience in writing and developing literacy curricula.
• Proven ability to develop and create professional content that teachers value.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully perform in an atmosphere of multiple projects and deadline pressures.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
• Clear and colloquial writing style.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise considerable initiative and sound judgment.
Benefits
• Salary range of $120,000 to $140,000.
• Flexibility in work location (onsite, hybrid, or full-time remote).
