About Our UX Team and the Role

Our UX team is a dynamic group of design, content, research, and accessibility practitioners and experts who are passionate about improving and innovating our digital experiences for Target's guests, team members, and partners. As a Lead UX Operations Manager supporting our Enterprise UX team, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of our vendor experiences and contributing to business growth. Your expertise in design program management will be instrumental in supporting and developing best practices for our UX team, focusing on how we work together, how we get work done, and how our work creates impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of UX leaders, product designers, content designers, engineers, product managers, accessibility consultants, data analysts, and UX researchers to drive design operations and user experience excellence.
  • Establish clear processes for design delivery, defining who needs to review work and when, to ensure efficient and high-quality outputs.
  • Lead the development and guardianship of standardized, scalable Design Operations processes across the organization, contributing best practices and adoptable ways of working that support the total enterprise.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and business teams to define objectives and align desired outcomes, ensuring that design operations are aligned with business goals.
  • Develop and evolve UX team metrics to track progress, measure impact, and identify areas for improvement, providing data-driven insights to inform design decisions.
  • Build and maintain systems for tracking individual and team utilization, identifying gaps, and supporting hiring plans to ensure that the UX team is adequately resourced and equipped to meet business demands.
  • Establish and optimize design team workflows, ensuring alignment and consistency across communication frameworks, project templates, leadership routines, and resource management practices.
  • Track and share progress with stakeholders to ensure continued adherence to processes and alignment with team goals, providing transparency and visibility into design operations.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • 7+ years of experience in digital software product work, with in-house or agency product design teams, demonstrating a deep understanding of design operations and user experience principles.
  • A portfolio featuring design operations, program management, and a proven track record of driving design excellence and process improvement.
  • Demonstrated success in resource management and capacity planning, including tools and frameworks to support allocation and utilization tracking in a large matrixed organization.
  • Analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to translate data and insights into actionable improvements and recommendations.
  • Strong facilitation and collaboration skills, with a talent for building relationships and driving alignment across disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Able to work well in a large organization with many partners, with a demonstrated track record of building deep relationships and influencing peers and leaders.
  • Comfort level working directly with team leadership to help determine the roadmap and prioritization for the team, providing design operations expertise and guidance.
  • Experience mentoring and upskilling more junior members of the team, demonstrating a growth mindset and a commitment to developing the skills and capabilities of others.

  • A strong understanding of design operations principles, practices, and tools, with the ability to apply this knowledge to drive process improvement and design excellence.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing multiple tasks and projects while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex problems and develop creative solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience working in a remote or hybrid work environment, with a proven ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with distributed teams.
  • Familiarity with design operations tools and software, such as Asana, Trello, or Jira, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and technologies.
  • Knowledge of user experience design principles and practices, with a deep understanding of how design operations can support and enable design excellence.
