The Customer Service Representative will play a vital role in delivering outstanding customer service by explaining policy coverage, claim status, and assisting with claim payments or other policy information to policyholders and/or interested third parties. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Heavy phone contact with policyholders, providers, and interested third parties to address their inquiries and concerns
  • Processing policyholder requests from correspondence, phone calls, and emails in a timely and efficient manner
  • Reviewing and maintaining new and revised procedures regarding policy information to ensure up-to-date knowledge and compliance
  • Maintaining department standards for number of calls, average handle, and time management to meet performance expectations
  • Providing excellent customer service, ensuring that all interactions are professional, courteous, and respectful

Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred
  • At least one year of office experience preferred; telecommunications experience is a plus
  • Life and Health insurance background and knowledge of insurance operations desired
  • Excellent communication, both written and oral, and organization skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Excellent alpha and number recognition skills, with demonstrated mathematical abilities
  • Basic PC skills, with the ability to type at least 30 words per minute
  • Able to handle high-stress situations calmly and with tact and professionalism
  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze situations and make logical conclusions

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the essential qualifications, the following preferred qualifications will be considered an asset:

  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish), with a pay differential available for bilingual employees
  • Previous experience in a remote work environment, with a proven ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Knowledge of insurance operations and policy coverage, with a strong understanding of customer service principles and practices

Physical Requirements

This role requires heavy phone and PC usage, with extended periods of sitting and frequent reaching above shoulder level. The work environment is fast-paced, and the ability to work a 40-hour workweek is required. You must also reside in the Greater Houston Area, have high-speed internet (20mbps/upload), and a smartphone for this role. blithequark will provide a company workstation to you.
