Consulting for First-Time Non-Fiction Book Publishing
I am looking for an experienced consultant who can support me in finalizing and publishing my first non-fiction book. The manuscript is already well developed, but I need professional guidance to bring it to a publishable, market-ready level.
I am open to both publishing paths – traditional publishing or high-quality self-publishing – and would like expert advice on which route is most suitable for my project.
What I am looking for
1. Manuscript & Editorial Consulting
- Review of the current manuscript structure and clear recommendations for improvement
- Support in refining clarity, narrative flow, transitions, and overall readability
- Guidance on tone, style, consistency, and target audience alignment
- Suggestions for missing elements such as examples, exercises, summaries, or better chapter transitions
2. Publishing Strategy
- Advice on traditional publishing vs. self-publishing, with practical pros and cons
- Assessment of the book’s positioning and potential fit for publishers
Support with:
- Creating a professional book proposal
- Identifying appropriate publishers or agents (if relevant)
3. Self-Publishing Support (optional: hands-on implementation)
- Guidance on formatting, structure, layout requirements, and professional standards
- Support with KDP or other self-publishing platforms
- Advice regarding ISBNs, imprint, pricing strategy, distribution, etc.
Optional: full operational assistance with the self-publishing process
4. (Optional) Marketing & Positioning
- Pre-launch recommendations (e.g., landing page, teaser content, reader magnets)
- Suggestions for visibility through social media, website, email lists, etc.
- High-level positioning guidance as an author/expert
Current Project Status
- Manuscript draft available (not yet finalized)
- Target audience and positioning are already clarified
Goal: publish the book in a professional, high-quality format — either independently or through a publisher
What is important to me
- Experience with non-fiction or business book development
- Structured working style and clear communication
- Honest, constructive feedback and editorial sparring
- Optional: hands-on support with technical self-publishing steps
- Bonus: If you speak German, that is definitely a plus.
(The manuscript is written in German.)
Please include in your proposal
- What types of book projects have you supported before?
- Do you offer guidance for both self-publishing and traditional publishing?
- How would you propose to structure the next steps for my project?
- Do you also provide operational support (e.g., KDP setup)?
- What is your pricing model (hourly or package-based)?
- Do you speak German (optional but helpful)?
I look forward to working with a professional who has real experience in book development and publishing—and who can help me bring this project to a strong, market-ready finish.
