Non-Negotiable Requirements You must already have hands-on experience with: • QuickBooks Online (daily use, not light exposure) • Accrual-based accounting • Booking and reviewing payroll journal entries (wages, taxes, allocations) • Monthly bank and credit card reconciliations • Supporting multiple client accounts • Understand why and how to have a clean balance sheet If these are not already part of your background, this role will not be a good fit. About the Role We are a U.S.-based fractional CFO firm working with service-based businesses across the United States. Our clients depend on clean books, accurate financials, and clear decision support. We’re hiring a full-time Bookkeeper / Accountant to support our CFO team. This is a tactical, detail-focused role. You are not replacing the CFO. Your work supports CFO review and decision-making. This is a long-term role for someone who takes pride in accuracy, structure, and well-documented processes. Core Responsibilities Bookkeeping & Accounting • Categorize bank and credit card transactions accurately in QuickBooks Online • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts monthly • Record and review payroll journal entries • Ensure proper classification between COGS and operating expenses • Maintain clean, consistent chart-of-accounts usage • Proactively flag anomalies or unclear transactions Client & Process Support • Learn each client’s setup and accounting nuances • Ask clarifying questions when something doesn’t make sense • Create and maintain client-specific SOPs in Notion • Improve documentation as processes evolve CFO Support • Prepare clean financials for CFO review • Assist with month-end close • Communicate issues clearly and concisely • Take ownership of assigned clients and deadlines Required Skills & Experience • Strong QuickBooks Online experience • Solid understanding of U.S. bookkeeping and payroll • Deep understanding of accrual-based accounting • High attention to detail and accuracy • Strong written and verbal English communication • Comfortable explaining how and why transactions are booked • Able to follow structure while thinking independently • Experience working with multiple client accounts Bonus (Not Required) • Light budgeting or forecasting exposure • Prior experience supporting CFOs or preparing CFO-ready financials Education • Accounting degree or related field strongly preferred Tools You’ll Use • QuickBooks Online • Gusto or similar payroll platforms • Notion • Google Workspace • Slack or similar communication tools Work Schedule & Requirements • Full-time, Monday through Friday • Must be available during U.S. business hours through 12:00 PM Pacific / 9:00 am Eastern • Stable, high-speed internet connection • Quiet, professional home office • Strong responsiveness during working hours Growth Opportunity This role can grow over time through increased client responsibility, deeper process ownership, and expanded accounting oversight as skills develop.
