About the position The Speech/Audiology Specialist 3 is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating speech-language or audiological disorders within the Department of Health's Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities. This advanced-level position involves working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, providing specialized services in various healthcare facilities across multiple parishes in Louisiana. The role includes both direct patient care and administrative responsibilities, such as compiling statistical data and coordinating follow-up care. Responsibilities • Assess, diagnose, and treat speech-language or audiological disorders. • Perform instrumental assessments for speech pathology, including videofluoroscopy and fiber-optic endoscopy tests. • Conduct screening and diagnostic tests in audiology, such as Transient Otoacoustic Emission and Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR). • Develop patient evaluations outlining outcomes, needs, and recommendations based on test results and observations. • Create augmentative communication techniques and coordinate the use of prosthetic/adaptive devices for speech. • Fit and establish effective use of hearing aids and create ear molds for swim plugs in audiology. • Compile statistical data for agency reporting and assist with administrative tasks. • Provide consultation and training to individuals, providers, and families. • Coordinate patient care with physicians, social services, and interdisciplinary team members. Requirements • Possession of a valid unrestricted Louisiana license to practice audiology plus two years of professional experience in audiology. • Possession of a valid unrestricted Louisiana license to practice speech-language pathology plus two years of professional experience in speech therapy/pathology. • Graduate training beyond the master's degree in audiology or speech-language pathology can substitute for a maximum of one year of required experience. • A doctorate in audiology or speech-language pathology can substitute for all required experience.
