Job Category: Academic Staff Employment Type: Regular Job Profile: Compliance Admin (Inst) Job Summary: The Export Control Program within the Office of Research Policy and Integrity ensures compliance with United States export control laws. Export control laws can apply to many activities incidental to the education and research missions at UW-Madison. These activities include research with proprietary industry technology, international shipments of advanced scientific equipment and biological materials, participating in international research collaborations, space- related research, international travel, and use of computer software with encryption features. The Export Control Manager will report to the Director of Research Security and is responsible for ensuring that research and services completed at the UW-Madison are conducted in a manner compliant with federal export control regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Key Job Responsibilities: Serves as a subject matter expert for affiliated matters for internal and external stakeholders Provides consultation for resolution of policy violations that involve students, employees, visitors, guests of the institution and/or applicants Provides guidance and oversight to university personnel compliance, policies, and procedures Oversees, develops and participates in activities designed to raise awareness of the law(s) and its purpose Directs operational activities and staffing resources for compliance implementation, including outreach, support, and/or investigations Develops and maintains institutional and operating policies and procedures to ensure compliance Department: Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR), Research Policy and Integrity Compensation: The minimum annual salary for this position is $90,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Required Qualifications: - Experience interpreting and implementing government regulations. Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with export control and research security regulations. - Technical or scientific background. - Strong interpersonal and management skills. - Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. - Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
