[Remote] Staff Accountant

Kaplan is a leading global provider of high-quality educational services, and they are seeking a Staff Accountant to oversee the quality and accuracy of financial statements. The role involves preparing journal entries, performing month-end close procedures, and ensuring compliance with GAAP standards.
Responsibilities
- Preparation and posting of standard/adjusting journal entries
- Perform month-end close procedures and meet all deadlines
- Review and analyze revenue reports for accuracy in accordance with GAAP
- Interact with field personnel to ensure subsidiary ledger and financial statement accuracy
- Financial statement review including detailed variance analysis of profit and loss and balance sheet statements
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate/resolve reconciling items
- Assist with audit requests and interact with internal/external auditors
- Ensure proper internal controls are maintained for corporate/field financial processes
- Perform various high level ad-hoc analyses and complete special requests as assigned by management
- Other duties as assigned
Skills
- Bachelor's degree; Accounting major
- 1+ years accounting experience required
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and general accounting including: Revenue Recognition, Inventory, Accounts Receivable, Allowance for Doubtful Accounts, Accruals, P&L variances
- Must be detail oriented
- Must be proficient in Excel
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to quickly adapt to new business systems/applications
- Excellent verbal and written communications
- Oracle experience preferred
