Scriptwriter for True Crime Story Video Content
About the Role
We're looking for talented writers to join our team creating engaging, story-driven video scripts based on true events. Our content turns real stories into compelling narratives that feel like short movies rather than newscasts. If you can take a complex true story and make it impossible to stop watching, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Do
• Find Stories: Research and identify compelling true stories with strong emotional hooks—whether that's a villain audiences will love to hate, an inspiring underdog, or a wild situation that's almost too crazy to believe
• Pitch Stories: Present story ideas with a clear understanding of why audiences will care and stay engaged from start to finish
• Write Scripts: Transform research into 1,100-1,300 word scripts that are 100% original work, written in chronological order, and formatted for visual storytelling
• Source Materials: Locate original footage, images, and reliable sources to support each script; verify facts across multiple sources
What We're Looking For
• Strong storytelling instincts—you understand narrative structure, pacing, and emotional arcs
• Ability to write in a casual, conversational tone (like you're telling a friend an incredible story over coffee)
• Research skills to dig up accurate information and verify facts from reliable sources
• Understanding that scripts are written to be visually depicted, you write scenes that can be shown, not summarized
• Ability to simplify complex situations so they're easy to understand on first listen
• Attention to detail and commitment to factual accuracy
The Ideal Candidate
• Can identify what makes a story emotionally engaging (What makes the audience mad? Inspired? Entertained?)
• Understands character motivation and uses it to drive narrative
• Writes in bite-sized sentences that flow naturally ("therefore, therefore, but" not "and then, and then")
• Knows the difference between "showing" and "telling"—you bring audiences into moments rather than summarizing events
• Can work within a specific format and structure while still bringing creativity to each script
