Freelance Journalist (Venues & Events NYC)
Company Description
Litty is a premier NYC-based venue discovery and booking platform that simplifies the event planning process. As a one-stop shop, Litty allows users to view availability, compare prices, and seamlessly book venues. The platform is designed to offer efficiency and convenience for event organizers, helping to transform the way venue booking is done in the bustling NYC Metropolitan Area.
Role Description
We are looking for a NYC-based freelance journalist or writer to produce one high-impact, original feature article per month for our blog. This isn’t a role for generic "round-ups." We want a storyteller who will hit the streets, interview venue owners, talk to event producers, and uncover the new and noteworthy in NYC’s hospitality and event scene. You will be responsible for researching and reporting on the latest trends, events, and venues in the NYC area, producing high-quality written content.
Responsibilities
• Original Reporting: Identify and pitch one deep-dive story per month related to NYC venues, event trends, or industry insights.
• Field Work: Conduct interviews with venue owners, managers, and event hosts to gather "inside-scoop" information that isn't available online.
• New Intelligence: Focus on new venue openings, "pivot" stories of existing spaces, or investigative guides
• Photography: Capture (or source) high-quality, original photos to accompany the story.
• Drafting: Deliver a 1,500-2,000 word article per month that is SEO-friendly, original and engaging.
Qualifications
• Strong skills in writing and crafting compelling content
• Experience in research and developing accurate, in-depth articles.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, you aren’t afraid to walk into a new bar or call an owner to get the real story.
• Experience in journalism, PR, or editorial writing where interviewing and fact-checking are second nature.
• You must be living in New York City. You know the difference between a "hidden gem" and a tourist trap.
• A proven track record of published work, ideally in the lifestyle, hospitality, or city-interest space preferred.
