This mission-driven organization seeks a skilled legal professional to serve in a strategic volunteer leadership role on the Board of Directors.
Position Overview
We are seeking a strategic and mission-driven Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to serve as a Board-appointed officer and member of the Board of Directors.
The CTO provides governance oversight and strategic leadership for the organization’s technology vision, digital infrastructure, and innovation strategy. This role ensures that technology systems and platforms effectively support program delivery, fundraising, data utilization, cybersecurity alignment, operational effectiveness, and long-term sustainability.
The CTO works collaboratively with executive leadership and fellow board members to align technology initiatives with the organization’s mission, values, and strategic priorities.
This is a non-paid, volunteer board leadership position.

Key Responsibilities
Technology Strategy & Vision
• * Develop and guide execution of a comprehensive technology strategy aligned with organizational goals.
• Identify emerging technologies and digital solutions to enhance mission delivery and operational efficiency.
• Advise the Board and executive leadership on technology investments, risks, scalability, and innovation opportunities.
Digital Infrastructure & Systems Oversight
• * Provide oversight of technology infrastructure, including hardware, software, cloud platforms, and digital tools.
• Ensure systems are scalable, reliable, secure, and aligned with operational needs.
• Establish standards for systems architecture, documentation, and lifecycle management.
Technology Operations & Project Leadership
• * Lead major technology initiatives, upgrades, and system integrations from planning through implementation.
• Manage relationships with technology vendors, consultants, and service providers.
• Promote effective change management and user adoption strategies for new systems.
Security, Compliance & Collaboration
• * Collaborate closely with the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to embed cybersecurity into technology systems.
• Support compliance with data protection, privacy regulations, and grant-related technology requirements.
• Partner with the Chief Information Officer (CIO) to align technology platforms with data governance and information management practices.
Leadership & Capacity Building
• * Provide leadership, mentorship, and strategic guidance to technology staff, contractors, and volunteers.
• Collaborate across program, finance, operations, and development teams to ensure technology solutions meet functional needs.
• Promote innovation, digital literacy, and technology best practices across the organization.
Additional duties may be assigned as organizational needs evolve.
Qualifications
Education
Required:
• * Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
Preferred:
• * Master’s degree in Technology Management, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
Preferred Certifications:
• * ITIL or equivalent IT service management certification.
• Cloud architecture certifications (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Enterprise systems or technology architecture certifications.
Experience & Expertise
• * Senior-level technology leadership experience overseeing complex and scalable technology environments.
• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing digital infrastructure and transformation initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of systems architecture, cloud platforms, and enterprise technology strategy.
• Experience leading cross-functional technology projects and managing vendor relationships.
• Nonprofit, grant-funded, or mission-driven organizational experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of governance, fiduciary responsibility, and strategic oversight at the board level.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Commitment to ethical leadership and mission-driven innovation.
