Position Overview

We are currently looking for a full-time Pharmacy Customer Service Associate to join our Illinois team. In this critical role, you will be the face of our pharmacy operations, serving as the first point of contact for patients and customers seeking healthcare guidance and support. You will be responsible for modeling and delivering an outstanding customer experience while assisting the pharmacy team with various operational tasks that ensure smooth and efficient prescription processing.

Key Responsibilities

As a Pharmacy Customer Service Associate at arenaflex, you will play a multifaceted role that combines customer service excellence with pharmacy operations support. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Customer Experience Excellence: Greet all customers and patients with warmth and professionalism. Engage customers proactively to understand their needs and provide assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer inquiries promptly to ensure a positive shopping experience.
  • Register Operations: Process customer purchases on the assigned sales register accurately. Collect payments, make change, and process voids, returns, delays, refunds, and exchanges as needed. Guide customers to appropriate store sections, particularly the Over-The-Counter (OTC) aisle, to help them find products.
  • Pharmacy Support: Under the direct supervision of the pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal guidelines. Utilize pharmacy systems to obtain patient and medication information and process prescriptions accurately. Enter patient and medication data into the system, ensuring all information is input correctly.
  • Prescription Processing: Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical medications. Verify that medications are correct and check for potential drug interactions. Report any prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately, adhering to company policies and procedures.
  • Workflow Assistance: Support pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow efficiency. Perform duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Director, Staff Pharmacist, or Senior Manager, including using pharmacy systems effectively.
  • Administrative Tasks: Process manual claims for third-party program prescription services in a timely and efficient manner. Handle phone calls that do not require the personal attention of the pharmacist, including calls to physicians. Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Director.
  • Inventory Management: Assist and support the Pharmacy Division with inventory management activities such as ordering, unloading, checking, and storing medication shipments. Maintain knowledge of company asset security procedures and report claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods including prescription drugs.
  • Store Maintenance: Keep counters and displays clean, well-organized, and properly merchandised. Take inventory and maintain records as required. Ensure compliance with state and local regulations regarding controlled products such as alcoholic beverages and tobacco products.
  • Visual Merchandising: Build and maintain displays, including promotional, seasonal, and sale merchandise. Complete resets and corrections as directed. Assist with the placement of food items and product positioning according to established policies and procedures.
  • Photo Center Support: Provide customer service in the photo area, including digital passport photo services, banner printing, and creative machine operations. Handle special photo product sales.
  • Online Order Fulfillment: Take on web order responsibilities, including monitoring orders in Picture Care Plus, picking items, and delivering orders to customers as they arrive at the store.
  • Store Appearance: Assist with external and internal maintenance by ensuring a clean, tidy, and well-organized store condition and appearance.
  • Compliance and Professionalism: Comply with all company policies and procedures. Maintain respectful relationships with fellow team members. Complete special projects and other assignments as directed.

Training and Self-Development

  • Acquire and maintain PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) certification through the designated PTCB training program and any state-required certification or registration.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor Degree is required for this position.
  • Language Skills: Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English. (Except in Puerto Rico).
  • Availability: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekend hours, to meet the needs of our customers and pharmacy operations.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers, patients, and team members.
  • Customer Service Orientation: Strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and creating positive experiences.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately process prescriptions and handle financial transactions.
  • Technical Proficiency: Basic computer skills and familiarity with point-of-sale systems and pharmacy software.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications and experiences will be considered a plus:

  • Six months or more of experience in a retail environment.
  • Previous work experience in a pharmacy or healthcare-related setting.
  • Prior experience with arenaflex or familiarity with our products and services.
  • Strong mathematical skills for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
  • Proficiency in computer operations and technology.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control procedures.
  • PTCB certification or willingness to obtain certification.
