Role Summary
The Managing CPA / Director of Tax Services will lead and integrate a newly established tax division within a growing wealth management firm. This is a key leadership role responsible for the entire tax practice's operations, quality control, profitability, and staff development. The ideal candidate is technically strong and people-oriented, focused on ensuring seamless client transitions and integrating tax strategy with financial planning to provide comprehensive advisory services.
Key Responsibilities
• Practice Leadership & Operations: Lead the daily operations, overseeing all aspects of individual, business, estate, and trust tax return preparation and review.
• Team Management: Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of experienced tax professionals and administrative staff, overseeing quality control and adherence to deadlines.
• Client Advisory: Conduct tax planning and client meetings, maintaining a hands-on approach with key relationships. Lead client communications during ownership transitions to ensure retention and satisfaction.
• Integrated Planning: Partner closely with wealth management team to identify and execute tax-efficient planning opportunities for shared clients.
• Efficiency & Compliance: Drive technology adoption and efficiency in workflows (using Drake, QuickBooks, etc.). Manage internal reporting, billing, profitability, and ensure compliance with all IRS, AICPA, and state regulations.
Qualifications/Requirements
• Credentials: CPA required (EA or MST is a plus).
• Experience: Minimum 10 years of public accounting experience with substantial tax leadership background.
• Tax Expertise: Strong understanding of small-business and individual taxation, including S-Corps, partnerships, and multi-state filings.
• Management Experience: Proven experience managing a small to mid-sized team in a tax or accounting firm environment.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency with Drake Software and QuickBooks preferred, along with familiarity with Microsoft 365.
• Attributes: Excellent communication and relationship management skills; organized, process-driven, and comfortable leading change and integration.
