This a Full Remote job, the offer is available from: California (USA) Team Name: Job Title: Senior Database Engineer I - MySQL, Blizzard | Irvine, CA Requisition ID: R026728 Job Description: Blizzard Entertainment is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to join a global team responsible for critical MySQL infrastructure that powers several live service games, the Battle.net platform, and many internal tools. This role will focus on operational excellence of our wide range of MySQL deployments with databases ranging from on-prem bare metal to multiple cloud environments. You will manage different types of setups such as standard active/passive replication topologies, globally replicated clusters, and a large fleet of MySQL NDB Clusters running on Linux. You will be joining a team of senior database engineers assisting with automation and tooling, developing public cloud strategies, and collaborating with game development teams to ensure high performance and availability. This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position based on site at our Irvine, CA campus, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. Responsibilities: • Database Administration: Manage MySQL database installation, configuration, monitoring, alerting, and backups. • System Administration and Automation: Perform routine tasks on our database infrastructure utilizing Terraform, Ansible, and Puppet. • Database Performance: Assist development teams with performance issues ranging from indexes to query tuning to database/OS configuration and network troubleshooting. • Cloud Integration: Assist in deploying and managing databases in Azure, GCP, and Alibaba. • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams including infrastructure, security, and development teams to support business needs. Requirements: • Experience: 8+ years in MySQL database engineering. • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of the MySQL ecosystem including backup tools, monitoring solutions, and automation. • Communication: Strong ability to engage with stakeholders across different time zones. Report on metrics, incidents, and service levels to leadership. Pluses: • Experience managing MySQL NDB Cluster. • Experience with migrating on-prem databases into Azure/GCP. • Experience with OpenStack. • Linux administration and networking experience. • Bash/Python scripting experience. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location.
